Floral is everywhere this Spring..I saw these wellingtons in Primark today having already bought some wellies when it snowed but these really caught my eye. They remind me of the floral party dresses I used to wear as a child for birthday partys, that is probably why I love them because it brings back childhood memories. And these are mine… yes still very childish but I love spotty prints especially red with white spots!
In uni, a couple of weeks ago we had an exciting visit from the host of the luxury accessories brand, Cherchbi. The collection is all British made and inspired by english heritage and culture, using the finest of leather sourced and produced locally. Aftert taking a closer look at the peices I noticed the fine detail and quality that had been put into each item to make it unique. Each leather man bag would be slightly different due to the colourways in the leather. The prices range in the collection from £30 for a brass handmade keyring to a £900 leather man bag. This was not surprising after feeling the quality and handmade touch of the peices.
Cherchbi is a unique luxury goods brand due to it being locally sourced and having a handmade aethetic. The chocolate coloured leather used in most of the collection is ideal for many seasons and won’t go out of fashion for a while, therefore investing in a Cherchbi bag will be something you may use for life, although as a student I definately won’t be buying one. I believe that in a few years time there will be many more brands following what Cherchbi does and produce things locally and handmade, cutting down on mass production and the idea of everyone owning the same fashion item.
It might seem a little boring that I am writing a post on a paper company called GF Smith, but I was amazed by the vast range of techniques used on certain types of paper. GF Smith is the leading specialist paper company in the UK and below you can see samples of brochures or look books that they have produced recently. It was interesting to see a fashion poster printed onto a paper with the same quality of newspaper, and then at the other end of the scale to have foiled and glossy pages used in high fashion look books.
The reason why I have become emerged in different types of printing and paper qualities is because I am currently designing my own business card which needs to reflect my own personality by conveying them through the texture or style of paper it will be printed on.
Talking about paper techniques, laser cutting is extremely popular and can be used in my ways one being in fabric creating intricate gaments with unique detail on. I found these examples of catwalk collections all taking similar inspiration. The tehnique allows the fabric to be manipulated in a delicate way.
