Grand Pacific has been around a few years now, housed in the renowned Grade II listed Manchester Reform Club building at the top of Manchester’s King Street. I visited back in 2017 when it was taken over by the Living Venture Group, you can read about my experience here, however this time I visited Grand Pacific as they have launched an amazing new menu with seasonal dishes to complement the Summer months. The restaurant dines approx 120 guests with beautiful interior design, opulent decor and an impressive bar inspired by Raffles Hotel in Singapore. The menu has plenty of choice for all tastes which includes both English classics and dishes with an exotic twist. Many of the dishes on the menu haven’t changed including the sushi bowl and the chicken skewers, just a few new additions to give it a refresh for the Summer.
To start we went for the ‘Thali’ plate which is a very generous size and more than enough for two people, I’d say it could even stretch for three guests if happy for a smaller starter. The dish includes bakwan sayur, chicken karaage, duck gyoza, glazed chicken skewers, prawn tempura, chicken wings and forbidden rice balls, all served with dipping sauces. My favourite was the chicken skewers as they were cooked to perfection and tasted delicious! For main course we went for the baked salmon, a new dish on the Summer menu which is served with an Indonesian salad, pomegranate and satay dressing. An interesting mix of flavours on one plate but it was lovely and light and perfect for a Summer evening. However for £17.95 I did think it was quite expensive for the portion size, considering it didn’t include any other sides. My husband chose the fillet steak which he orders regularly when we are out for a meal, it was succulent and cooked well. A portion of gunpowder potatoes, tenderstem broccoli and caramelized mushrooms and peppers were a great addition to our mains. I am always a fan of dessert so couldn’t end the meal without trying their peach Summer pudding as it just sounded too delicious to miss! I am a fan of anything fruity so thought I’d give it a try. The dish was beautifully presented and deliciously sweet, filled with summer fruit goodies and served with raspberry and peach coulis. My husband ordered the chocolate fondant which was just as good, this one is for the chocolate lovers! Overall I had a great experience at Grand Pacific and enjoyed trying out some of their new dishes. The staff were excellent and couldn’t do enough for you which definitely was a bonus.
